On 30 September 2026, MagicInterview made the device's own models do more. On supported devices, Apple Intelligence and Gemini Nano can write your answers privately on the device, and the signed-out demo now coaches for real without leaving it.
What changed#
- Apple Intelligence on iPhone, iPad and Mac. On devices that have it, you can choose Apple Intelligence as the answer engine, so answers are written on the device instead of in the cloud. It was added to the iPhone and iPad app on 24 September.
- Screenshots, on the device. On macOS and iOS 27, Apple's on-device model can read images, so a screenshot you share can be answered without leaving the device. Coding sessions still use the cloud.
- Gemini Nano on Android. On supported Android phones, the on-device coach runs on Gemini Nano, through Android's on-device AI service, with the same prompts and behavior as on iPhone.
- Newer on-device transcription on the Mac. Live transcription uses Apple's SpeechTranscriber on macOS 26 and later once the language's model is installed, and the earlier recognizer remains the fallback.
- A demo that stays on the device. Without an account, the demo on a supported Mac or phone listens, transcribes and answers on the device, saves nothing, and asks you to create an account after five answers.
- A fixed bug. On-device answers now treat a spoken question as the other person's, as the cloud answers do.
Why it matters#
Some conversations are ones you do not want to leave your device. With an on-device answer engine and on-device speech, nothing from the conversation needs to go to an answer provider. It is also the fastest way to try MagicInterview, with no account and nothing sent.
How to use it#
- Open Settings and find Answers.
- Choose Apple Intelligence on iPhone, iPad or Mac, or the on-device model on Android. MagicInterview Cloud gives fuller answers. The automatic option uses the cloud and switches to the device if the network fails.
- Choose on-device speech recognition as well, so the words are recognized on the device too.
- Availability depends on the device, the operating system and whether the model has been installed. If it is not available, the app says so and does not offer it.
On-device answers use a smaller model than the cloud ones, so they are shorter and may be less detailed. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what is sent to the cloud and what is not.
On-device answers on Android are available on Google Play now. The iPhone, iPad and Mac versions come with their App Store release, which is in review.
